Facultory vs Calendly, for faculty
Calendly is excellent general-purpose scheduling — that isn’t in dispute. The question is what a professor is actually buying: a sales-team feature set at a per-seat price, for a job that is mostly office hours, advising, and committees.
| Dimension | Calendly | Facultory |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Sales calls, recruiting screens, customer meetings | A professor’s week — office hours, advising, committees, defenses, prospective students |
| Price | Free tier limited to one event type. Standard about $10/user/month billed annually (≈$120/year), $12 month-to-month (calendly.com, July 2026) | $6/month or $60/year, flat. Unlimited meeting types on the entry plan; every larger Facultory plan includes the desk |
| Meeting types | One on the free plan; unlimited on paid plans | Unlimited — each with its own duration, color, and location |
| Group availability polls | One-off meeting polls on paid plans | Included — When2meet-style grids; voting needs no account; finalizing sends the group one calendar invite |
| Your page’s address | calendly.com/your-name | Your university’s page — /your‑university/your‑department/you/schedule — or a short /meet/you link |
| What a booking captures | Name, email, custom questions | Topics up front, plus academic context: advising bookings can log into your advisee tracker; senior-design teams book presentations inside your declared windows |
| Video locations | Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Webex | Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Meet — plus your office, a phone call, or any custom spot |
| Accounts for bookers | Not required | Not required — and never any ads |
| Beyond scheduling | CRM and sales-stack integrations | The rest of an academic desk one upgrade away: CV & biosketch, grants, letters, advisees, annual reports |
Where Calendly genuinely wins
Round-robin routing across a sales team, Salesforce and HubSpot handoffs, enterprise SSO and admin controls over hundreds of seats. If that describes your problem, buy Calendly — it is very good at it. None of it describes office hours.
The math for one professor
Calendly Standard at about $10 per user per month billed annually is roughly $120 a year before unlimited event types unlock. Facultory’s scheduling desk is $60 a year, flat — and the difference isn’t only the number. The booking page lives on your university’s page beside your colleagues, students book without accounts or ads, and the desk connects to the academic record Calendly has no concept of: advisees, senior-design teams, prospective students, and your department’s poll board.
